Today, on #TransgenderDayofRemembrance, we?celebrate the strong trans women, sex workers, and LGBTQIA+ community? who retaliated against police brutality at the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot in 1966. Their community advocacy brought visibility to transgender issues in and beyond San Francisco, informing the inception of the National Transsexual Counseling Unit (NTCU), the world’s first peer-run counseling program. Here at PRC, we build upon that passion of grassroots community care through our own Lift Up peer counseling program, legal advocacy, and community outreach for people living with HIV, people experiencing substance use disorder, and people living with mental health issues. This past Saturday, PRC volunteers transformed Robertson Place as part of our Healing Spaces Initiative! ? On November 9th, eleven incredible volunteers donated their time and energy to bring new life to the kitchen and dining areas with a fresh coat of paint. These spaces aren’t just rooms—they’re places for community, comfort, and healing for the residents we support every day. Join SF HIV FOG on?October 25, 2024?for a training on navigating grief in HIV frontline work from?12:00-1:30 PM. This training will be hosted in-person by PRC and facilitated by Bridget Sumser, LCSW.?Participants will learn about Grief 101 in the context of HIV frontline work, as well as explore grief management skills to increase a sense of coping and community connection.
