Meet Gladstone! Born and raised in Jamaica by parents who were educators, Gladstone moved to Montréal and then Toronto to study HVAC. Gladstone worked in a range of industries and ran his own investment business before transitioning to trucking. The Prairie Aggregates team in Indiana was recently honored with multiple awards at the IMAA Conference for their outstanding efforts in environmental excellence and safety. The Waverly Pit earned the 5-Year Safety Award, while the Bloomfield Pit was honored with the 13-Year Safety Award. Both teams achieved these milestones by maintaining a perfect record with no reportable incidents to MSHA, demonstrating their commitment to a safe and secure work environment. In addition to safety, the Waverly Pit and Bloomfield Pit also received the Environmental Excellence in Mining Award for their dedication to protecting the environment. The team’s efforts to comply with federal, state, and local regulations concerning the protection of our air, water, and land have played a key role in the site’s recognition, along with maintaining clean facilities, reducing fugitive dust, and prioritizing environmental training. These awards are a testament to the hard work and pride the teams take in maintaining high standards for both safety and environmental responsibility. They also reflect Prairie Aggregates’ commitment to excellence in every aspect of its operations. Today, February 11, is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Following our VC principle of Ethics and Diversity, this important day reinforces our commitment to ensuring women and girls can contribute to science without barriers and biases. At Votorantim Cimentos, we have many women working in science and engineering, and we strive to boost the representation of women in such fields. Taking on the range of our challenges in our world, from healthcare to sustainable development, will require all available talent, and perspectives. Diversity in scientific and technology fields will help create a world that works for all of us. Closing the current gender gap in science means creating opportunities for women currently in science to inspire and encourage the next generation of girls.
