While great strides have been made since the first known cases of AIDS were reported in 1981, the disease remains a public health challenge. World AIDS Day is an opportunity for individuals and communities to honor the more than 32 million people worldwide who have died from AIDS-related illness. World AIDS Day remains as relevant today as it's always been, reminding us that HIV has not gone away. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/dZmHatQ. #PrairieProud

Today, we introduce you to Madi M. RN, BSN, who has been a nurse at Prairie St. John's for eight months. Madi says, "The best part of my job is the opportunity to make a real difference in peoples lives during a difficult time. I feel privileged to support individuals through their mental health journeys, whether it’s providing comfort, teaching coping skills, or just being a calming presence when they need it most. It's also incredibly rewarding to work with such a dedicated team of professionals who share the same commitment to patient care." Madi goes on to say, "Mental health care is just as important as physical health care, and the people I care for are often facing tremendous challenges. Many of them are dealing with serious emotional pain, and it's important to understand that mental health struggles can affect anyone, regardless of background, age or circumstance. The work we do at PSJ is about more than treating symptoms; it's about providing support, empathy and the tools to help people find stability and healing. I encourage the community to approach mental health with compassion and understanding, as it is an essential part of overall well-being." #PrairieProud

We start out this week's Staff Spotlights with our CEO, Ty Hegland, who has been at Praire St. John's for two years and in health care for 18 years. When we asked Ty about the best part of his job, he said, "That you never have to question whether you're doing something meaningful." Ty added, "I would like the community to know individuals turn to us for help during their darkest hours and that it is an absolute privilege and is treated as such. Not only are we able to usher them on a path of recovery, but the impact we have goes beyond a singular patient and affects families, friends, professional colleagues, and entire communities. Additionally, the most advanced healthcare and human service organizations in the tri-state region turn to us to take care of their patients. It is a badge of honor, and we should wear it with pride." Thank you, Ty, for everything you do! Pictured is Ty with his supportive family. The loss of a loved one to suicide often leaves family and friends reeling with grief and struggling to make sense of the tragedy. Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding suicide and mental illness, combined with complex emotions, can prevent individuals from reaching out for support or accessing necessary resources to cope. Recent studies highlight the critical role of communication and support in promoting the well-being of survivors. All of us at PSJ are here for you. If you find yourself in crisis, please call us at 701-476-7200. If you or a loved one are contemplating suicide, please call or text 988. #PrairieProud

Meet our Supportive Housing Lead Mental Health Technician and Patient Advocate, Monaya B., who has been with us since 2012! When we asked Monaya about what the best parts about working at PSJ are, Monaya said, "We are a family here at Prairie St. John's. All of us are in the same boat and everybody knows how we feel, and we back each other up. This feels like home." Monaya added, "We are so lucky to have this hospital in our community. It's amazing! As for supportive housing, it's so good seeing people getting their needs met and getting help. Being homeless and unsheltered is hard, and we are here to help people in our community." Monaya, your heart is pure and selfless. You exude love and kindness. Thank you for who you are! #PrairieProud

Today, we are recognizing Connie L., Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, who has been with us for 10 years! When we asked Connie about experiences with PSJ, Connie said, "I have learned over the years to see the best in each situation and stay in the now. Over the course of years, I have witnessed many changes with PSJ. I have seen changes with administration, team members and a new hospital. With that being said, the journey with PSJ is truly like the seasons. Life is unpredictable, so changes will happen like the seasons. Our substance abuse and mental health will change, as the leaves fall, the freeze of winter, keep in mind spring is coming with a new beginning." Connie added, "The most important lesson I have learned is to change with the seasons and not extend it over a lifetime. I know places get a reputation whether good or bad as does the stigma with mental illness. Keep in mind, life is short so live it fully. Anger can be bad so embrace it and dump it, face the fear and the end result will be sweet memories and cherish life and seek the care you need. I believe in you." Thank you for everything you do for us and our patients, Connie!
