Last week, we were grateful for the opportunity to join some of our land stewardship partners and Wisconsin State Representative Jenna Jacobson to explore a few of the rarest ecosystems in the Upper Midwest-prairies and grasslands! This was a great opportunity to share the amazing land stewardship being done at one of our protected sites, Handrick Grassland. Additionally, we discussed the importance of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program in saving these threatened habitats. Pictured here: Pat Handrick (Prairie Enthusiast volunteer and site steward of Handrick Grassland), Charles Carlin (Gathering Waters), Debra Behrens (The Prairie Enthusiasts Executive Director), Representative Jenna Jacobson, her Legislative Aid Amanda Peterson, and Jen Filipiak (DALC). In celebration of Earth week, our Executive Director Debra Behrens had the pleasure of joining Governor Tony Evers for a hike at Governor Dodge State Park. We appreciate the Governor's support for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, a program that has helped protect several rare prairies and oak savannas. It was an honor to join other conservation partners like Gathering Waters: Wisconsin's Alliance for Land Trusts, Groundswell Conservancy, and Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance for this event.
