A few weeks ago, it was my pleasure to introduce the recipients of the?2025-26 Cheryl Wall Faculty Fellowships. Named in tribute to Dr. Cheryl Wall, a trailblazer in inclusion and access efforts at Rutgers, these fellowships are made possible through a collaborative agreement between Rutgers University and the Rutgers AAUP-AFT. Prabhas V. Moghe was appointed as the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in October 2020. As EVPAA, Moghe forges strategies and develops initiatives to strengthen the academic enterprise at Rutgers. He serves as the president’s chief adviser on academic matters, leads all universitywide faculty support programs, and coordinates academic priorities across the central administrative offices and chancellor-led units. In this role, he works closely with both the chancellors and their provosts and gives voice to a collective vision that will propel Rutgers among our finest peer institutions. Among other key universitywide functions, the EVPAA manages our tenure and promotion process and has oversight for the libraries, Rutgers Global, continuing studies, enrollment management, student veterans services, institutional research, and Rutgers University Press. The EVPAA also has oversight for the Office for Research, which combines various key functions of research, intellectual property, and grants administration.

It was an enriching experience to participate in the CASE conference in London this week, alongside academic and advancement leaders from Rutgers University and the Rutgers University Foundation. The event facilitated valuable discussions on collaborative strategies to expand learning opportunities for our students. Michael Gower and I engaged with colleagues from universities across Finland and other European nations, exchanging insights and best practices to strengthen educational advancement and institutional partnerships.

We are grateful to all of our hosts in Korea this past week and appreciate learning about the biomedical research and experiential learning opportunities available to our faculty and students. We will soon begin our final day at the K-BIOX AI Biohealthcare Drug Discovery Summit where Rutgers University, Rutgers Health and Rutgers Global participants will be able to discuss academic and research excellence at Rutgers with more than 1,000 students, academic, government, and industry leaders.

Earlier this week, I was privileged to meet with leadership of CHA University in South Korea to explore how our universities can expand opportunities in experiential learning for students and connect our biomedical researchers. Throughout this week, and joined by colleagues from Rutgers Global and Rutgers Health, we are learning about South Korea’s thriving academic, industry, and government sectors and exploring exciting opportunities for future collaborations, while showcasing the Rutgers brand on a global stage, fostering opportunities to recruit top students and postdoctoral researchers who will contribute to the vibrant intellectual community at our university.

Congratulations to Dr. David Baker on winning?the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Proudly, Rutgers University?Protein Data Bank, a?U.S. data center for a global archive of 3D structure data for proteins and DNA and RNA sequences, served as an essential resource in the work for which Dr. Baker was recognized. Led by Dr. Stephen Burley, the Protein Data Bank is an international public resource supporting both basic and applied research, as well as education and training, in the biological and biomedical sciences.?Congratulations?also to Dr. Sagar Khare, professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences, who completed a postdoctoral fellowship developing tools for design in Dr. Baker's lab. Rutgers honored Dr. Khare with the well-earned Presidential Outstanding Scholar Award earlier this year.?
