Historically, air purifiers have always had physical filters in the form of cloth, porous fibre bags, paper HEPA, and others. These always led to high energy consumption due to pressure drop, and were expensive to scale and replace - never really capable of providing hyperlocal impact in large spaces. With this reality in mind, over the last 7 years, Praan’s team built and continuously refined our filter-less Quantum Capture technology to help purify the air in large spaces without physical filters! HE BUILT FORMULA-STYLE RACE CARS! HERE'S WHAT HE'S DOING NOW! When I was younger, I was indifferent to engineering, but my dad always kept me around, whether it was tinkering with the fusebox or replacing the bulbs. He was a mechanical engineer by profession, and like most fathers, he wanted me to follow in his footsteps. My curiosity extended beyond engineering, and inspired by my brother's artistic talent, I decided to explore the arts. I loved cars but soon realized sketching them was not my forte. Like every teenager, I was plagued by the question, 'What do I want to do when I grow up?' With my dad's early influence in engineering, combined with my passion for cars, mechanical engineering seemed like the right fit. My college had a Formula Student team, and I knew this was where I belonged. Things were going full pace ahead when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and I was thrust into a world of virtual learning. Drowning in theory, Orion’s workshop became my sanctuary. From operating a power drill to a grinder, I got hands-on experience with it all. My first corporate experience was pleasant, but it left me unsatisfied; I didn't want to be a cog in a machine. I discovered Praan through my college seniors and applied for a position as a Mechanical D&T engineer. Praan’s vision struck a chord, and I thought, apart from automobiles, why not apply myself in a place where I can build something bigger than myself? At Praan, I learned critical parts of the product development cycle like ‘design for manufacturing’ and cross-functional communication. A defining moment for me was when the team rallied to fulfill a huge shipment for MK II, transcending roles to ensure success. Everyone worked tirelessly, and I watched colleagues turn into friends. This experience taught me that challenges are opportunities for growth. I'm most proud of designing the Hive’s stand; seeing my designs come to life was a gratifying moment like no other. When I visited factories and spoke to workers affected by inhospitable conditions, it reiterated the ‘why’ behind my work. I knew that every improvement I made had a direct positive impact on their lives. When asked what it means to be an engineer, I now understand that it is about solving one problem and moving on to the next.
