Single-use packaging is a primary cause of the plastic and climate crises. Reuse is the most effective solution. PR3’s mission is to enable and accelerate the alignment and scaling of reuse systems around the world. Over three years, drawing on input from across the value chain, PR3 created system design standards meant to align returnable packaging –regardless of producer– with shared infrastructure for collection, washing, and transport. Through this work, PR3 has become a hub for solutions in the global plastic reduction and reusable packaging systems space.

Rebrand Reuse is live!
Today, on Global Recycling Day, it’s time we face a hard truth: recycling is not the answer.? Only 9% of plastic waste is actually recycled, but even with increased efforts, recycling cannot undo the damage of single-use packaging. There is a much better solution. Reuse.?? Reuse is a system, not a product: Coffee cups, takeout containers, shampoo bottles, and more can be used, collected, washed, and reused multiple times. At scale, reuse could cut single-use packaging production by 90% and reduce emissions by up to 80%, a climate impact comparable to grounding the entire aviation industry. But a new era needs a new icon: a clear, recognizable symbol that identifies reusable cups, containers, and packaging, distinguishing them from recyclables and single-use waste. Introducing Rebrand Reuse (rebrandreuse.org), a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to design the symbol for reuse: the icon of the future. Presented by the PR3 Global Standards Panel, Rebrand Reuse?is a global design initiative open to all. To respond to the plastic waste problem that makes Vietnam one of the highest plastic pollution in the world, Plasticdiet Indonesia as one of the co-convenor of Asia Reuse Consortium, together with Pacific Environment in Vietnam and Refillables Dong Day organized the Reuse Tour and Conference Vietnam in last December 2024. This activity was attended by various stakeholders to share experiences and learn about the reuse system in Vietnam. The Reuse Tour and Conference Vietnam 2024 also launched the 'Vietnam Reuse Hub' consisting of businesses and community groups to highlight reuse as a solution to reduce single-use plastic waste in the tourism sector. The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) and The Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Islands Plastics Pact (ANZPAC) recently released their report on Activating Reuse. ?? We were excited to see one of the key recommendations is to use the #PR3Standards. Reuse standards support the shift away from single-use packaging while increasing consumer confidence, unlocking investment, and ensuring environmental benefit.
