This video demonstrates the phenomenon known as spontaneous synchronization. Other examples include flocks of birds moving as one, audiences clapping in unison without prompting, or individual heart cells beating in unison when brought close together. This doesn’t just occur in nature—it's happening in your organization right now. The unconscious coordination of human behaviors, attitudes, and performance levels is real, and can be a powerful force. People working in sync can lead to enhanced communication, collaboration, productivity, and job satisfaction. At its worst, however, poor work habits, negative attitudes, low productivity, and active disengagement can spread, leading your team or organization into a downward spiral. Organizations can harness the power of synchrony while mitigating its risks with: ? Intentional Culture: Establish clear values and give examples of what those values look like in terms of observable behaviors. ? Rigorous Onboarding: Show new hires how to "vibrate" within this culture from day one. ? Continuous Development: Create ongoing programs to reinforce positive behaviors and mindsets. ? Leadership Modeling: Executives and managers must embody the synchrony you want to see (and those that don't need to exit). ?
