The night begins with a screening of Left Alone Rhapsody, an inspiring documentary about pianist and composer John Bayless, who reinvents himself as a one-handed musician after a life-altering stroke. Following the film, engage in a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring how individuals with disabilities are breaking barriers and reshaping the arts. After the discussion, enjoy a reception featuring food, drinks, and an exclusive gallery exhibition, Joyful Color by Sophia Pineda. As we come together this Shabbat, our hearts are heavy with the devastating impact of the wildfires raging across southern California. Lives have been lost, thousands of homes and other structures have been destroyed, families have been uprooted, and communities are reeling from the trauma of this natural disaster. In times of crisis, our Jewish values of tzedakah (charity), gemilut chassadim (acts of loving-kindness), and bikur cholim (visiting the sick) guide us. We are called to stand in solidarity with our fellow human beings and offer support in any way we can. Below are suggested ways our community can help. ?Financial Contributions: Donate to reputable organizations providing relief efforts. Several are listed below, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington's Wildfire Crisis Relief Fund. Other organizations listed are also actively involved in providing support to those affected. ?Volunteer Your Time: If able, consider volunteering your time to assist with relief efforts (packing food and clothing, giving blood*). ?Spread Awareness: Share information about the crisis and ways to help with your friends, family, and on social media.
