PowerHouse Texas was established in 2022 by the Texas Energy and Climate Caucus to bridge the political divide and build consensus across the aisle around critical energy policy issues.

Tonight the Railroad Commission of Texas hosted a public comment session for the Class VI CO2 storage wells in Ector County, west Texas. I was happy to provide an oral comment.
PowerHouse Texas Policy & Program Manager Anagha Uppal attended the Gulf Regional Offshore Wind Convening hosted by the U.S. Energy Foundation and Southeast Wind Coalition last week. Anagha met with industry, community and foundation representatives on the important role offshore wind can play in the energy expansion of Texas and Louisiana. Offshore wind is resilient, it's grid reliable, it has minimal impact on coastlines, and it can firm up our reliance on offshore O&G and onshore wind. In a state that has ever-growing energy needs and a significant amount more offshore land as compared to other states, offshore wind is a high-potential energy source for Texas.
I’m excited to share insights from a powerful panel moderated by Margo Weisz at the Texas Energy Summit on “The Role of Civil Society”. Margo, co-founder and Executive Director of the Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute (TEPRI), led a dynamic discussion with Patricia Zavala (Executive Director of PowerHouse Texas), Mark Strama Director at the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life (University of Texas), and Randall Kempner President of Prosperity Strategies. The key takeaways from this thought-provoking session: ?? It's official! Governor Greg Abbott?and the?Public Utility Commission of Texas have announced the release of the?Texas Advanced Nuclear Reactor Working Group’s final report. The report includes?seven key legislative?recommendations?to position Texas as a global leader in advanced nuclear energy: 1. Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Authority:?Establish a non-regulatory entity to coordinate Texas’ strategic nuclear vision, implement policy recommendations, and manage state nuclear incentive programs. 2. Texas Nuclear Permitting Officer:?Designate a single state-level point of contact to assist developers and businesses in navigating the complex permitting process for advanced nuclear projects. 3. Workforce Development Program:?Develop initiatives across community colleges and universities to train a homegrown workforce in nuclear-grade welding, radiological monitoring, reactor operations, and related fields. 4. Texas Advanced Manufacturing Institute:?Create a hub to foster innovation and build a robust nuclear supply chain, positioning Texas as a leader in advanced manufacturing technologies. 5. Texas Nuclear Public Outreach Program:?Launch a communications initiative to educate Texans on the safety, reliability, and benefits of advanced nuclear energy. 6. Texas Nuclear Energy and Supply Chain Fund:?Provide cost-sharing grants to incentivize early development, siting, and manufacturing readiness in the nuclear supply chain. 7. Together, they aim to distribute hundreds of thousands of smart thermostats by 2035, building a nearly 1 GW AI-powered VPP to strengthen the Texas grid's resiliency and help households save on energy costs. Exciting news this week from NRG Energy and Renew Home on how they plan to work with Google Cloud to deploy a virtual power plant (VPP) to power an estimated 200,000 homes across Texas. NRG and Renew Home will leverage the power of Google Cloud's advanced AI and data analytics platforms to optimize home energy management, and help NRG do things like better predict weather conditions, forecast wind and solar generation output, and create predictive pricing models. This will give NRG’s consumers greater control over their energy consumption. Together, we’re using the power of cloud technology to make energy production more efficient and affordable and build a more resilient grid and sustainable future for Texas. ICYMI: The Conservative Energy Network hosted a recent webinar on “Empowering Tomorrow: Evaluating Our Energy Infrastructure's Impact on National Security.” In an era of increased power demand and cyber threats that pose significant risks to our national power grid, robust energy production and secure energy transmission systems have never been more essential. One of the featured speakers, Jade Gillespie from Conservative Texans For Energy Innovation, shared her expertise.
