We had a great time at the very first national CCA Conference hosted by LEAN Energy US a few weeks ago in Washington, D.C.! Dominic Faria, Senior Coordinator of Policy at Ava (front and left-center in this photo), had the opportunity to to talk all-things-CCA with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) staff and CCA representatives from across the U.S.

Senior Advisor for Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy at U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), #Team46 Biden-Harris Climate Appointee Leader

The transition to a 100% carbon-free, clean energy future will require new business models, financial products, and partnerships that are either just emerging or don't even exist Today... That's why last week, I was delighted to join and speak at the first national conference for "Community Choice Aggregators" (aka CCA) put on by LEAN Energy US, a nonprofit?dedicated to the accelerated expansion and competitive success of clean energy CCA's nationwide. Participants exchanged best practices on renewable energy sourcing and marketing strategies, financing mechanisms, market and technology innovations beyond procurement, infrastructure and regulatory challenges, state and federal funding opportunities, and even community engagement. In addition, DOE welcomed the LEAN Energy leadership and some of the CCA members to meet with various DOE programs offices to shed light on new ways that CCA's can better interact and partner with DOE. My remarks focused on how the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is evolving and building out new teams and tools to support communities through the clean energy transition, as well as the importance of the CCA buisness model to reach the scale of decarbonization needed. As an example, DOE has been working to establish new capacity building programs, including Community Energy Fellowships, a new DOE-AmeriCorps partnership for Clean Energy Service Corps members, an Arctic Energy Ambassadors program. Starting in 2025, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), U.S. Department of Energy will also be enabling CCA's to be eligible for the Clean Energy Innovation Fellowships (CEIF) to support them with expanding new service offerings, expanding to new territory, and enhancing the value proposition of the CCA's. To me, CCA's offer communities a game-changing local energy model. It's essentially a shared-service model with investor-owned utilities that enables cities and counties to aggregate their electric load for the purpose of lowering electric rates, offering ratepayers a choice to buy clean energy, and by doing so, lowering greenhouse gas emissions. CCA's are also thinking about expanding beyond just providing choice of power, to also aggregating home #efficiency and #electrification technologies and solutions to reach economies of scale, especially when combined with the IRA home energy #rebates and new #taxcredits. This is where things can get really exciting in IMHO. Currently, CCA's are enabled in 10 states, with several others looking to vote on this in the upcoming elections, so stay tuned to see whether CCA's will be coming to your backyard. >>> https://lnkd.in/daXNZCkk A big thanks to Alison Elliott, Claire Dépit-Str?mb?ck, and the LEAN ENERGY US team for your great work in the field and for engaging with DOE while you were in town. #ENERGY #MarketTransofrmation #CCA #Community #InvestingInAmerica
