????♀? They say don’t meet your heroes. But last week I got the chance to meet two of mine: Jackie Aina and Erica Louie. Jackie and Erica were two of the first creators I ever followed on YouTube. And meeting them was honestly a bit emotional for me. ?? Jackie (founder of FORVR Mood) was one of the first POC beauty creators, back when there were very few women of color reviewing makeup online. Now with the explosion of creators on TikTok, it’s hard to fathom that it wasn’t that long ago when there wasn’t much dark-skinned representation online. Even though Jackie and I are far from the same shade, her authenticity resonated with me and made me feel welcome in the beauty community. ?? Erica Louie, also known as Miss Louie on YouTube, was the first fashion creator I followed when I graduated from college. She made relatable content around stylish but business casual apparel, which I so needed as a fresh grad entering the workplace. I felt like I grew up with her, watching her personal growth over the years as she’s become a mom and blossomed in her career. Chatting with both of them reminded me of the reason why we started Hue. - because everyone deserves to see themselves represented in the shopping journey. ??
