Let's Be Honest I know we're all eager for good news these days. But as International Women’s Day approaches, we have to acknowledge the truth: there have been major setbacks in recent years for women, girls and their rights. In many countries, the?average when women have a first child has fallen: in DRC, at least one-third of women now have their first child before 18. In Afghanistan, now again under repressive Taliban rule,?women and girls cannot work, complete their education, or leave the house without a male escort. Many countries - including Canada, the UK and certainly the US – have scaled back humanitarian and development assistance budgets – which were in many cases focussed on empowering women and girls. Our old approaches to protecting and advancing the interests of women?and girls are no longer enough. We need to make bolder moves - through business and democratic politics. Every day I think about what more I can do, what Powered by People (PBP) can do. As March 8 approaches, what are you prepared to do?
