Should TikTok ROAS be your main KPI to optimize for? It depends on your goal. ??: Chief Strategy Officer, Ben Dutter

TikTok ROAS has no relationship with customer lifetime value. The chart below is a zoomed in view of our top ~80 TikTok ads in the last year across our Fashion portfolio of clients (our primary TikTok spenders). ? X axis is median LTR by ad ? Y axis is tracked ROAS by ad Let me explain the "median LTR" bit: in nova Intelligence we have a tool called Creative Affinity. It's essentially a clean room between all of our data stored within nova (down to the log level) and TikTok. This means that we're able to track: ? if any customer was tracked by TikTok ? AND eventually made a purchase That purchase is then tagged to the specific ad(s) that the individual saw, and all subsequent lifetime revenue is allocated toward that ad. So, in short: 1) Ben saw an ad on day 1, but didn't click 2) Ben bought a shirt on day 30 ($50) 3) Ben bought another shirt on day 65 ($50) 4) Ben bought some pants on day 180 ($100) If Ben was the median lifetime revenue customer from that ad, then the ad would be reported as having a median lifetime revenue of $200 ($50, 50, 100). All purchases within the filtered time window would be "attributed" back to that ad and accumulate LTR. We're just now digging into this data with our creative team and our partners at TikTok, but, the biggest takeaway for me is a confirmation of my hypothesis: --> There is no correlation between ROAS and LTR In other words, continuing to optimize off of ROAS (even with an extended lookback window like we have within nova Intelligence) isn't helping you bring in high value customers. That doesn't mean it isn't the right strategy in a lot of cases, but, if your focus is on driving the highest value customers possible then it's the wrong KPI to focus on.
