From fear of falling to newfound freedom—Mary’s journey at Annandale Village in Suwanee, GA is nothing short of inspiring! Through hard work and dedicated support from caregivers, administration, and the therapy team, she progressed from being non-weight-bearing to walking 100 feet with a four-wheel walker and stand-by assistance. This incredible progress allowed her to move independently from her bedroom to the dining room for meals and activities. Mary also overcame her fear of falling, successfully completed a car transfer, and even enjoyed an outing with her family. Occupational therapy helped her regain upper body strength and improve independence in daily living activities (ADLs). Big strides and even bigger wins at The Wayne Center! ?? Marcia arrived after experiencing sudden difficulty with her legs and lightheadedness while out with her sister. Upon admission, her MBI score was 43; she required assistance with all transfers and could walk only 5 feet with a walker. She also spoke so softly it was almost a whisper. Thanks to her determination—and the incredible support from Brooke Oslar, MS, OTR/L, Marissa Sashahara, OTR/L, and Devon DuPont, COTA/L—Marcia has made remarkable progress. She can now walk 100 feet with a walker, complete all self-care tasks with supervision, and, through speech therapy, has strengthened her voice so we can hear all the wonderful things she has to say! "Shelby was my angel that day." ?? When Joe needed urgent medical help, Shelby Williams, OT, stepped in without hesitation—recognizing the emergency, calling for help, and providing critical details to EMTs. Joe’s daughter, Eileen, shared, "Shelby’s attentiveness toward Dad made a real difference during a stressful time." Eileen went on to say, "What is very important to note is that I chose Shelby [to contact] because I trusted her. That is a great character trait! Her active reading that morning keyed in on the urgent medical need for Dad." Shelby’s quick thinking and immediate response played a crucial role in getting Joe the help he needed. Thanks to the teamwork of Shelby, Tricia, and Monika, Joe is now back on his feet—"literally, he's back up on his rollator!" Shelby’s actions went beyond her job description, and her extraordinary care is truly something to be celebrated. In recognition of Shelby’s heroic efforts, leadership paid a special visit to Juniper Communities (Village at Hamilton) to personally thank her and celebrate her exceptional work.
