??Meet your PSA Board of Directors… Dr. Marisa Erasmus, assistant professor of animal sciences and animal well-being, completed her bachelor's degree in animal biology and master’s degree in animal and poultry science from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. She earned her doctorate in animal science from Michigan State University. Before starting her career at Purdue University, Dr. Erasmus worked on a commercial turkey farm and for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Her research has focused on developing animal-based measures of poultry welfare and exploring? the effects of management and environmental factors on animal well-being.

Our most recent Interpretive Summary showcases research from the USDA and North Carolina State that compared conventional cages to "enriched" colony-type cages. ?? Hens were experimentally infected with two types of?Salmonella?Enteritidis, a leading cause of human salmonellosis.
