Photographing Potter League For Animals adopted pets for the cover of Newport Life Magazine was nothing short of wonderful. In total, we had three dogs, two cats, and a guinea pig! This was extra special for me because I also volunteer at the Potter League by photographing the dogs awaiting adoption. It's something improtant to me, especially knowing how vital great photos are in getting animals noticed while waiting for their forever home. I love how the cover design by Karyn Jimenez-Elliott came together with her direction. And now a secret: the dogs on the couch are composited together with three different images! In order to have a safe studio environment, we only photographed one pet at a time. Special shout out to Kara Montalbano (marketing director for the Potter League), our handler extraordinaire Alex Hawk (www.ahdogtrainingri.com) and Retina Creative Lab for letting me bring animals in whenever I ask ???? ‘Tis the season for our Holiday Issue! Our cover story features the Potter League For Animals – including a trio of dogs named Dixie, Aspen and Monty; a pair of cats called Stark and Miss Ellie; and Dottie, the guinea pig, all Potter Pets who found their forever homes – and all the work the shelter does year-round in support of the community. We also have stories on the Art of Entertaining, Christmas at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, and local fiber arts clubs, including those that meet at Matriarch in Newport, The Stitchery in Portsmouth, and Lycette Designs in Newport. Plus, a profile on Josy Wright, a 95-year-old printmaker with a solo exhibition on view at the Jamestown Arts Center, and our annual Gift Guide. Lots to read & savor this season!
