Fantastic opportunity to join my SGMF colleagues today onboard the GREEN PIONEER - the world's first dual-fueled ammonia-powered vessel...right in the heart of Canary Wharf! Reminds me of being back in #IMO CCC8 with the initial discussions on #IGF Code interim guidelines for ammonia -> 3 years on, now seeing the practical application of regulations and technology + safety and process controls = GREEN PIONEER Thank you Fortescue & #SGMF for hosting and progressing the discussion on the safe use of #ammonia as a marine fuel! ?? ?? ?? Tanker chartering is a business defined by continuity. Each year, the industry’s ranking of the largest spot charterers remains broadly unchanged, with the same major players — trading houses, oil majors, and national oil companies — dominating the landscape. The latest data from Poten & Partners’ 2024 charterer rankings largely confirms this trend. For the first time, Orlen entered Poten’s top 20 dirty spot charterers in 2024, ranking at number 16, with 150 dirty spot fixtures. Compared to Unipec’s 805 similar fixtures it seems rather small, but this development marks a fundamental change in the company’s approach to crude oil sourcing, prompted by geopolitical pressures and strategic realignment. Historically reliant on pipeline crude imports from Russia, PKN Orlen has aggressively diversified its procurement strategy in response to shifting energy dynamics. The company has increasingly turned to seaborne crude oil imports from the North Sea and the Middle East, leading to a surge in its tanker chartering activity. In 2024 alone, Orlen fixed an estimated 16M tonnes of crude oil cargoes on the spot market, securing its position as a key participant in global shipping markets. Overall, liquefaction fees for U.S. LNG projects are on a path to rise above $2.50/mmBtu due to a tight labor market, rising construction costs and stubbornly elevated interest rates, brokerage Poten and Partners said in a recent report to clients. Higher liquefaction fees could hurt the cost-competitiveness of U.S. LNG projects, especially if coupled with an increase in U.S. natural gas prices and or a drop in Brent crude oil prices, Poten warned. "On top of a labor shortage, inflation is driving up the price of equipment and materials," Poten said. Reuters https://hubs.ly/Q03bngMK0

In its most recent Tanker Opinion, Poten and Partners says that, based on data from freight pricing portal Vortexa, tankers made an estimated 12,108 U.S port calls in 2024 “We don’t know how many of these calls were made by Chinese operators or operators with Chinese built vessels in their fleet or operators with newbuildings on order at Chinese shipyards,” says Poten. “However, if we take a look at the current tanker fleet and the orderbook, we can get a general feel for the numbers. https://hubs.ly/Q039f5VH0
