To promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing.

关于我们

Postpartum Support International (PSI) was founded in 1987 by Jane Honikman. The purpose of the organization is to increase awareness among public and professional communities about the emotional changes that individuals and families experience during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. PSI has members all over the world, including volunteer coordinators in every one of the United States and in 50+ countries. PSI disseminates information and resources through its volunteer coordinators, website, DVD, and annual conference. Its goal is to provide current information, resources, education, and to advocate for further research and legislation to support perinatal mental health.

Studies show that 1 in 3 latina women may experience perinatal depression or anxiety. These individuals may also experience other Perinatal Mental Health Disorders like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar, and Postpartum Psychosis. Perinatal Mental Health Conditions are the highest complication of childbearing – and often the most overlooked and stigmatized complication. This giving season, PSI is asking for your financial support. Your support ensures that we can continue to provide FREE support and resources to parents in crisis - especially when they need it the most. Whether $1 or $10,000, every donation contributes to helping us reach, support, and save the lives of parents affected by perinatal mental health disorders. Support #ParentsinCrisis . ?? What is the relationship between intrusive thoughts and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? Intrusive thoughts are a common experience in the perinatal period and may be related to OCD. However, it is crucial to understand that not all intrusive thoughts indicate a diagnosis of OCD. It is critical to know how to differentiate between these experiences in order to offer appropriate support and treatment to mothers. During our Spanish webinar on December 4, we will learn how to identify intrusive thoughts and their relationship to OCD, and how to address them clinically. This knowledge is vital for healthcare professionals working with mothers in the perinatal period. ?? We officially welcomed the inaugural cohort of the #AllianceFellowship during their October orientation. During this time our Professional Development Manager, Chemyeeka Tumblin facilitated an inviting space for learning and connection. Aside from learning about the fellowship program our fellows learned more about Postpartum Support International from President & CEO Wendy Davis, Alliance for POC from PSI Deputy CEO & Alliance Director Andrea Clark, reviewed perinatal mental health with Alliance Communications Manager Patience Riley, LPC, PMH-C, and met our dynamic Alliance staff. The Fellowship program started out as one of our Director’s dreams. The fellowship is a major milestone in our fellows careers, and they shared their dreams for the fellowship with us: ??Creating evidence-based interventions that are tailored, cultural and trauma-informed, and inclusive, helping neurodivergent parents feel more understood, empowered, and supported during these critical stages. ??Find ways to better support our father figures ??Inclusivity and growth in research ??Provide further insight into barriers and ultimately aid in creating bridges ??Contribute to the #perinatalmentalhealth field in a way that makes sure NO ONE gets left behind What is your dream for perinatal mental health and #BIPOC communities? Let us know in the comments. ??
