?? We're celebrating two years of Vera Kozak's dedication and leadership at the Post Growth Institute! ?? As the Director of Movement Building, Vera brings a unique combination of intellectual depth, cross-cultural insight, and a passion for learning. With a Master’s in Human Ecology from Lund University in Sweden, she has honed an #interdisciplinary approach to drawing connections between traditional ecological knowledge and scientific inquiry. Over the past six years, Vera has worked and volunteered with numerous youth-led organizations across the globe: facilitating youth #peace talks, organizing conferences, and creating #sustainability workshops that inspire change, especially in Eastern Europe. Her internship at Global Tapestry of Alternatives instilled in her a collaborative, open, and inclusive approach to movement-building, where mutual learning and #vulnerability are key. ?? Reflecting on the last year, Crystal Arnold (PGI Director of Hospitality) says: One of the things I appreciate about working with Vera is how she embodies the spirit of "Lento pero avanzo" (Slowly we move forward), valuing depth over breadth and creating space for thoughtful, adaptable work that honors both #process and #purpose. Leading feminist thinkers from Africa (Lumonya Faith and Jennifer Lipenga), Middle East and North Africa (Samia Al-Botmeh), South Asia (Nalini Rathnarajah), and Latin America and the Caribbean (Natalia Quiroga Diaz), will share perspectives on why we must move beyond gross domestic product (GDP) as the primary measure of societal progress.?Drawing on examples from their respective regions, the authors will set out key arguments from the paper, showing how the GDP-growth obsession is skewing policy-making towards measures that drive austerity, debt, corporate power, coloniality, environmental destruction, militarization and exploitative labour practices, whilst invisibilising unpaid care and domestic work. In a call to action, they will highlight indigenous and feminist alternatives that need to be pursued to catalyse a shift towards economies that centre care of people and planet.? ?
