Big thanks to the National Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE), Tom Saunders, and Jeff Vogel for inviting me to speak at the 2024 NAWE meeting in San Juan, where we addressed the evolving landscape for?marine terminal operators?in light of recent Supreme Court rulings, the incoming Trump Administration, new cybersecurity regulations, and growing political pressures tied to the threat of China. Marine terminals sit at the nexus of global trade and national security, and today’s challenges require us to think strategically about: ? Navigating regulatory changes: Adapting operations to align with anticipated rulings and compliance requirements. ? Strengthening cybersecurity: Proactively addressing vulnerabilities in response to new regulations and increasing geopolitical risks. ? Mitigating risks tied to geopolitical tensions: Understanding and responding to the impact of U.S.-China relations on trade and security policies. Delivering unparalleled service, efficiency, and value, the long-awaited double-stack rail service from the Port of Baltimore to the Midwest and Chicago, is now a reality.

This week, our team volunteered at the?Community FoodBank of New Jersey to help assemble food boxes for senior citizens throughout the state. With the goal of packing 350 boxes, we were able to assemble 784 by the end of our shift! As #OnePortsAmerica deeply rooted in logistics operations, we know the importance of getting resources where they're needed the most—whether it's goods moving across the globe or food going to local families. This is a reminder that giving back is just as important as the work we do every day. A huge week for containers last week at the Port of Baltimore, with 17,563 container moves at the Seagirt Marine Terminal. It was our busiest single week for containers in 2024. One move is each time a container is loaded on or off a ship. Great progress as we continue our recovery! Ports America

Yesterday, President Biden visited the Port of Baltimore to announce $147 million in federal funding for the Maryland Port Administration via the Clean Ports Program. This EPA funding will support Ports America Chesapeake’s major ongoing sustainability upgrades at Seagirt Marine Terminal as well as the transition of terminal tractors from diesel to electric. This is a huge step forward for the Port of Baltimore and our strides towards net zero emissions!?

On September 18th, Ports America Galveston hosted a port tour for 20 students from local Ball high school. They started in the office learning about our day to day operations and career opportunities. Then each donned a Ports America vest and received a “swag??bag”. Observing an active ship operation was especially exciting!

Our team had another fantastic time at Breakbulk Events & Media in Houston! It was a privilege to connect with industry leaders, partners, and clients, discussing the future of marine terminal operations and supply chain logistics.
