This month, we’re celebrating and dreaming about For Keeps Books, the site of our very first pop-up! As we prepare to celebrate five years of Portrait, we’re ever-mindful of the community that’s shaped who we are today. Major shoutout to Rosa Duffy, the founder of For Keeps Books. Her welcoming Atlanta space, dedicated to preserving Black literature, was our starting point. Want to learn more about Rosa and For Keeps Books? We see coffee as a platform for problem solving ? You can join us in pouring a narrative at home or in office —? Visit www.portrait.coffee for wholesale and subscription options.
Portrait Coffee, based in Atlanta, GA, was founded to address the lack of representation in specialty coffee. Despite coffee passing through many hands and stores, its origins in regions where Black and Brown people live are often overlooked. Portrait Coffee aims to highlight and celebrate this important aspect, bringing awareness to the underrepresentation in the coffee industry and honoring the cultural roots of coffee production.

Friday Portrait Coffee collaborated with NOMAtlanta to host the first installment of #Palette a meetup for black and brown designers and it was magical. Picture architects, entrepreneurs, engineers, visual artists, health equity entrepreneurs and agency owners gathered in SW ATL to discuss their experience and pursuit of excellence in their respective industries. It was humbling. Many gems were dropped by our panelists including thoughts on how and when to let identity be at the forefront of your work, navigating motherhood while pursing credentials and holding down a full time job, surviving the comparison trap and so much more. At Portrait we’re inspired to continue nurturing the creative community who has support us from day one. Personally I am excited to reinforce my learning and gain more experience using design as a community building and innovation practice. Special thanks to our panelists Ebehi Ijewere, Hailey W., Brittany Bosco, & Aaron Fender, café regulars, and new friends! Vol 02 now loading ??

It's up!! National Organization of Minority Architects ???? Portrait Coffee: this Friday we're investing in creative professionals with a robust panel discussion on the black and brown experience in design and entrepreneurship. More tickets will be announced soon: https://lnkd.in/eKwuRFRh
National Organization of Minority Architects x Portrait Coffee Presents Palette: Design For Us By Us this Friday ?? ?? This free event will feature an interdisciplinary group of panelists doing work in architecture, hospitality, and the visual and experience design industries. Hailey W., Brittany Bosco, Aaron Fender, and Ebehi Ijewere will discuss their experiences and wisdom as entrepreneurs and practitioners in these spaces with moderation from myself and Didier Porter. To be selected by NOMA as a collaborator and host for this event is an honor. To know we sold out last week with just one post on Portrait & NOMA's respective Instagram accounts is confirmation that we're achieving our goal of bringing value to our community. This is just the first installment - we're already discussing the follow up and 1000% certain we're gonna need a bigger venue. For the Culture. For the A. We'll see you Friday! We're talking about expanding capacity to allow more guests to watch the ticket link here: https://lnkd.in/eUpcBmYa #marketing #team #coffee #design #architecture #hospitality #diversity #equity

I'm excited to introduce "Parallel Play," my new column with Fresh Cup Magazine! ? Inspired by watching my children engage in parallel play (a phenomenon of children playing in isolation, but side-by-side), I've realized at times, my entrepreneurial journey shares a similar path: unnecessarily isolating myself from a community of fellow entrepreneurs who are often right alongside me, facing the same challenges in life and business. This series kicks off with a deep dive into how design thinking, particularly through my brother and business partner Marcus Hollinger perspective, has been pivotal in navigating the complexities of running Portrait Coffee. Marcus's approach—simplifying problems and dialing in on empathy for our customers—has not only shaped our strategies but has also emphasized the importance of community and collaboration in entrepreneurship. "Parallel Play" is about embracing these shared spaces, fostering growth, and innovating together in the business world. Join me as we explore these themes, drawing lessons from our own story at Portrait Coffee and beyond. Your insights could light the way for others walking alongside us. ?? Explore the story here: [Welcome to Parallel Play](https://lnkd.in/eJikNc5V) A special thanks to?Ashley Rodriguez for her kind, careful, and patient editing and input on this piece. I couldn't ask for a better sparring partner! #Entrepreneurship #DesignThinking #Community #ParallelPlay #PortraitCoffee #Coffee
