Nearly 200 first responders, industry experts, port representatives, and community leaders from across the globe attended our second annual Port Partner Emergency Response Summit last week. This year, the summit focused on protecting critical infrastructure, marine firefighting, emergency management and preparedness, and our first responders. This week, The Port of Virginia welcomed the arrival of the first of four new ship-to-ship cranes to be installed at Virginia International Gateway - further expanding our big ship capabilities. These new 170-foot cranes will double the amount of ULCV berths at the terminal. Upon completion of our $1.4B Gateway Investment Program in 2027, The Port of Virginia will have a total of 33 electric ship-to-shore cranes with the deepest, widest, and safest channels on the U.S. East Coast. The Port of Virginia was honored to participate in the Lowe's Companies, Inc. “Board Cutting” ceremony yesterday in Suffolk, Virginia. Progress continues at America's most capable offshore wind hub. Last week, Dominion Energy successfully completed its first season of monopile installations for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, the largest offshore wind farm under construction in the US. The Port of Virginia has invested $220 million to transform Portsmouth Marine Terminal into an offshore wind hub to support the project and this growing industry. The Port of Virginia is proud to announce that we received the second-highest award of $380 million from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Clean Ports Grant Program, moving America’s Most Modern Gateway closer to our commitment to Net-Zero by 2040. This investment will deliver cleaner, safer, and more efficient operations as we continue our transition to newer zero-emission equipment. The grant includes funding for local job training programs to support and advance Virginia's highly-skilled workforce.
