Saturday, March 8 is #InternationalWomensDay, a global event celebrating women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements. Along the 3,700-km Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway marine transportation route known as Highway H2O (HWY H2O), a growing number of women are playing important roles in an industry often viewed as male-dominated. One of those women is Port Milwaukee Director Jackie Q. Carter. When promoted to port director, she became the first woman and first person of colour to hold that position. https://lnkd.in/gxEAXiZy

As the Great Lakes cruise industry continues to grow, Port Milwaukee is hoping the $17 million the City of Milwaukee is spending on a new dock will help it stand out among the competition. “We need to solidify Milwaukee’s reputation in this market,” Port Director Jackie Q. Carter said. “This investment will take us from good to great and lock in our position and ability to grow this business.” That positioning is important because growth in the industry is on the horizon, according to experts. https://lnkd.in/dHZJ9e2c
