We’re proud to be a recognized national and international leader in the innovative field of Scenario and Adaptive Planning.? ?? Last week we held our fourth annual Adaptive Planning Workshop to find the best ways to invest in a reliable and resilient water supply system. Our teams assessed the condition and forecasts of customer demand and water supply conditions, so we’re able to right size Portland’s drinking water system and infrastructure.??? ?? This process allows us to be flexible and pivot to meet changing population, climate, water resource, environmental, legal, financial and economic circumstances. You could say we’re just like water flowing in a stream—always adapting and transforming to the surrounding terrain.

But in 2023, a wildfire broke out in the watershed, burning 2,055 acres. Raise your hand if you’re excited for the grand reopening of Washington Park Reservoir! In 2016 we began construction to replace the historic Washington Park Reservoirs with a 12.4-million-gallon underground reservoir. The new reservoir is designed to withstand seismic activity and landslides while serving water to Portland’s west side. ? ? Exactly 50 years ago, the Safe Drinking Water Act was signed into law to protect public health. Thanks to U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan, the City is able to invest in long-term improvements to Portland’s water system while saving customers millions of dollars.?? ? The $319 million loan will help fund the Bull Run Treatment projects, including the filtration facility now in construction. This project will not only help us meet drinking water standards, but it will also create thousands of construction jobs, save ratepayers money, and prepare us for climate change risks.?? ??
