We received some exciting news this week ?? Our team with ILWU Local 8 won 1st place in the Labor's Community Service Agency (Northwest) toy drive competition, helping their program fulfill its purpose of supporting union families experiencing hardship through the holiday season. We couldn't have done it without the donation support from our credit union members and our ILWU family. We want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the Presents from Partners program success (including Locals 8, 28, 40, 93, IBU, Auxiliary 5, and the Columbia River Pensioners), and we look forward to contributing even more in 2025!

What a JOY it was lending a hand at The Columbia River Pensioners Association Holiday Banquet. The ILWU Local 8 Auxiliary 5 did a spectacular job with the food, raffle, and entire program!

We’re excited to announce the winner of our 2024 College Scholarship, Maliyah Miller! Based on her outstanding video submission (shown here), we are awarding Maliyah with a $1,000 scholarship. Maliyah graduated from Jefferson H.S. with a 4.00 GPA. She is now pursuing Design & Advertising at the University of San Francisco. Originally from Portland, Oregon, Maliyah is the daughter of #ILWU Local 8 Longshoreman, Darrelle Miller. “My father played a key role in fostering my passion for art, as I have fond memories of us drawing together at the dinner table, where his constant encouragement helped shape my love for creativity. When it comes to school and academics, he has always trusted me to make my own choices while stepping in to support me when needed. As a hardworking Longshoreman with Local 8, he sets a strong example of perseverance and commitment. I’m incredibly proud to call him my dad.” Maliyah’s passions include art, travel, exercise, and Formula 1. She hopes to inspire youth to explore creative fields and industries, and she aspires to make a meaningful and lasting impact through her work. Congratulations, Maliyah! We'll be rooting for you.

Heat can’t stop us ??? We had the honor of sponsoring + attending the ILWU Local 8 Annual Bloody Thursday Picnic, which took place on the 90th Anniversary of Bloody Thursday. Portland Local 8 FCU remembers and honors those killed on July 5, 1934 during the violent event in San Francisco. We also recognize the struggle it took to form the ILWU, and the ongoing challenges the ILWU and other union workers face to this day.
