The hospital and its outlying clinics support a multi-specialty group of over 40 physicians and over a dozen allied health professionals. The main campus is a 36-bed hospital with ancillary services including the area’s only Open Bore MRI, 64-slice CT scanner, PACS, nuclear imaging, digital mammography and other radiological and laboratory services. UP Health System - Portage is home to the first Level III ASC-verified trauma center and emergency department in the state, as well as an Express Care walk-in clinic.

What a weekend—the UP Health System Great Bear Chase Ski event brought in over 900 skiers, with various spectators and volunteers for an unforgettable event in Calumet. With picture-perfect conditions on the Swedetown trails, participants of all ages and abilities took on distances from 10km to 50km, showcasing their passion and endurance. ? Due to the rising number of respiratory illnesses—COVID-19, Influenza and RSV—and the increased rate of transmission in our communities, we will implement limited visitor restrictions, effective Wednesday, March 5, for all inpatient units at UP Health System - Portage. These restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of our patients, community members, providers and staff remain a top priority. In an effort to protect you and our patients, the following restrictions apply: - Visitors who are ill with cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting or diarrhea are not permitted. - Children under 14 are not permitted to visit. - In our Family Birthing Center, visitors are limited to parents, labor coaches and grandparents. We, along with our community health partners, are monitoring respiratory illnesses closely and we will reassess and adjust visitor restrictions when we feel it’s safe and appropriate to do so.
