Aminah McNulty and Daniel McGovern from PORT attended the 2024 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo in Philadelphia last week. We enjoyed learning more about innovative material reuse strategies that could substantially reduce the embodied carbon of our public realm projects.

关于我们
PORT is a public realm design and planning consultancy comprising landscape architects, architects, urban designers, and planners. Based in Philadelphia and Chicago, the practice works across scales, contexts, and landscapes throughout the United States and abroad. PORT’s work is rooted in a belief in the transformative potential of a socially and ecologically vibrant urban public realm. By collaborating with communities to reimagine and shape these spaces, PORT delivers projects that are both unapologetically forward-looking and emphatically of a place.

Last week the City of Bentonville celebrated the ceremonial groundbreaking of the 8th Street Gateway Park, a new 100-acre park supporting community recreation, urban nature, and a beginner mountain bike destination. The park is composed of three sub-areas—the West Park, East Park, and Park Core—with dedicated space to play, gather, explore, and relax. Notable features within the park include a destination playground, cycle ring, state-of-the-art wheel sports garden, and a community pavilion and event plaza. Over the past 5 years, PORT led the collaborative design process, a robust public engagement campaign, and construction documentation. The team includes Ecological Design Group, Polk Stanley Wilcox, Apex Engineers, Inc, Prigm Engineering, PLLC, Studio Ludo, and California Skateparks. Crossland Construction Company, Inc. is set to begin this week with scheduled completion within 2 years. The PORT team is beyond excited to have reached this milestone with the City of Bentonville Parks and Recreation and the Bentonville community.

We're thrilled to announce the kick-off of the Jordan River Regional Park Master Plan in collaboration with Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation! Over the next 12 months, we’ll be diving into an incredible project, focusing on 800+ acres and 7 miles of the Jordan River that flows through South Salt Lake, West Valley, Millcreek, Taylorsville, and Murray. The project kick-off included biking the Jordan River Trail and a kayak tour led by the Jordan River Commission.

Congratulations the City of Knoxville, and Knoxville's Community Development Corporation for their historic grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities program! PORT, together with Sanders Pace Architecture, has been working in Knoxville for the past 7 years on a series of projects to improve connectivity between greenspaces and increase access to parks and recreation opportunities across East Knoxville and South Knoxville neighborhoods. It is beyond exciting for us to see the efforts of visionary leaders like Mayor Kincannon, former Mayor Rogero, Rebekah Jane Justice, Ben Bentley, and others, recognized with this level of support. As an urban design and planning team, we are proud to play a part in the story of the City of Knoxville’s incredible revitalization efforts. And as a practice wholly dedicated to work in the public realm, we are gratified to witness large-scale government investment in public spaces. Projects like these go a long way to empowering communities previously harmed by urban renewal infrastructure projects. Transforming these spaces with smart design strategies, pushing for environmental justice, and improving community well-being – that’s what it’s all about. We cannot wait to see what comes next!
