This week, the Port of Monroe received a 2024 Lighthouse Award for its work with Mythos AI during the American Association of Port Authorities Annual Convention in Boston, MA. This week, the Port of Monroe was the site of a roll-on operation for two oversized project cargo pieces bound for the site of a new battery plant in Windsor, Ontario. This cargo evolution is just another example of how the Port of Monroe can play a critical role in regional supply chains. Great work to all involved in this project! Last week, the Port of Monroe hosted Freight Forward 2024, an open house that highlighted previous cargo movements, future infrastructure investments, and education about the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway system. Our attendees were able to see the efficiencies of the port firsthand as the articulated tug/barge Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived to load gypsum during the event. We extend a gracious thank you to our participants and speakers, by hosting events like this we can help promote the untapped potential that the Port holds! Photo Credits: Vincent Cioletti & Capt. BENEFICIAL REUSE: The thousand-foot Paul R. Tregurtha is shown discharging a load of coal at the DTE Monroe Power Plant while the Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 departs with a load of synthetic gypsum earlier this week. Coal and limestone are delivered to the plant by vessel, and syn gyp, along with bottom ash, are produced as byproducts of the power generation process. The Port and DRM stage these materials for shipment, and specialized assets like the PM41 deliver them to beneficial reuse markets within the Great Lakes region. This operation is at the core of what we do at the Port of Monroe!
