When I first transitioned from live events to permanent installations, there weren’t many color changing options for homeowners. One of my earliest challenges was retrofitting a sconce that, to be honest, looked a lot like a roll of toilet paper. [Jay Lehrhaupt], remember those toilet paper tubes? The goal? Transform them into dynamic, color changing fixtures for a high-end residence. It was a small project, but one that pushed me to think outside the box, test technical limits, and embrace creative problem-solving. Fast forward to yesterday, tackling a new retrofit challenge: turning old decorative streetlights into wirelessly controlled(thank you [City Theatrical, LLC ], color-changing fixtures. [Ron Kuszmar], another unique one for the books! The technology has evolved, but the mindset remains the same, blending innovation with design to breathe new life into existing structures. [ PORT ] On Monday, I talked about Disney Imagineering and how it shapes my approach to lighting and thinking a little differently. This project is another example of that philosophy in action, taking something ordinary and making it extraordinary.
