Intermodal Project Update at the Port of Charleston on the Cooper River **Tap the video for full screen** Our portable Erie Strayer Company Central Tilt Mix Batch Plant has been going full steam at the Intermodal Project. Last night, we knocked out another 600 cubic yards, bringing our total to nearly 15,000 cubic yards since production started back in August. The precision and efficiency of our Erie Strayer central mix plant really shine on projects like this. With its tilt mixer design, we can ensure consistent, high-quality concrete with every batch—a key factor when handling projects of this scale. Today was a productive day as our Quality Assurance Manager, Dewayne Hartzell, QA team member Joseph Begley and I attended the NRMCA Group Pervious Concrete Technician Certification class, led by Gordon Singletary. Big thanks to the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association, of which Port City Concrete is a proud member, for organizing the event, and to Landmark Construction Company, Inc. for hosting us in their fantastic new office space. We had some great takeaways, especially around the benefits of pervious concrete in sustainable development. From its ability to manage stormwater runoff and reduce heat island effects, to its role in protecting tree roots and improving infiltration, pervious concrete is becoming an essential part of Low-Impact Development (LID) strategies. We also dove into ACI 522 specifications, understanding void content, and the importance of proper subgrade preparation to ensure permeability and durability.
