NEW: The Port Authority has awarded joint-venture firm Tutor Perini/O&G with a design-build contract to replace Newark Liberty International Airport's existing outmoded AirTrain system. The project will include a 2.5-mile elevated rail structure, known as the guideway, and three new stations for the new AirTrain system that will align with the ongoing redevelopment of the airport. “Our major airports are the front doors of this region for the rest of the world and ensuring easy, reliable public transit to and from the airport is critical,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “As we embark on the Newark vision plan, a new AirTrain is essential to both meeting increasing volumes at our airports and delivering a world-class passenger experience for Newark Liberty passengers.” Learn more about our plans to reimagine Newark Liberty: https://ow.ly/AT0u50U7qZi #ANewEWR #Aviation #Redevelopment

Improving Accessibility in Public Transit: PATH System’s Proposed 50% Fare Reduction for Riders with Disabilities New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, and the Port Authority have announced a proposal to implement a 50% fare reduction for PATH riders with disabilities—mirroring the fare reduction available to senior riders. If approved, the plan would begin in the summer of 2025 and debut alongside the continued rollout of the TAPP tap-and-go system, aiming to enhance both affordability and ease of access. As Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton expressed, "We are proud to build inclusivity into the PATH system – but we can always do more." This initiative is part of the Port Authority’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and accessibility across the PATH system, including significant investments in the PATH Improvement Plan and PATH Forward program. From January 30 to February 25, 2025, the Port Authority and NY Waterway will offer expanded ferry and bus services for PATH riders as Hoboken station undergoes essential infrastructure repairs. We’re focused on keeping commutes smooth with these alternative options:? -Peak ferry service every 10 minutes between Hoboken terminals and Manhattan’s Brookfield Place and Midtown/West 39th Street? -Expanded crosstown bus service from the Midtown terminal? -Extended ferry hours until 10 p.m. weekdays and 12 a.m. on weekends? -New weekend ferry route from both Hoboken terminals to Midtown? This closure will allow us to carry out critical safety repairs and improvements across several elements of the 116-year-old system. The full station closure enables the agency to complete track and station work on an expedited basis that would otherwise necessitate severe schedule reductions and service suspensions repetitively over a prolonged period. Track work will include replacing in-station track, replacing the track switching network outside the station, and repairing 4,500 linear feet of track leading to the station. Station work will include refurbishing the concrete platform surface and replacing four stairways between the station’s mezzanine and platform levels.? PATH will also be increasing service elsewhere in the system, running shuttle buses from Hoboken to Newport and Exchange Place Stations and has partnered with NJ Transit to expand service on the 126 Bus to the Midtown Bus Terminal and to expand Light Rail Service to Newport and Exchange Place For more details, visit the PATH Hoboken station closure website: https://ow.ly/WgBn50U8j8e #PortAuthority #NYWaterway #TransitImprovements #PATH?

This week, we released our proposed $9.4 billion budget for 2025, including $3.6 billion for capital projects as we continue progress on our once-in-a-generation transformation agenda. The 2025 budget will drive key advancements, from rebuilding our major airports and replacing the Midtown Bus Terminal to fully rehabilitating the George Washington Bridge, modernizing seaports, and overhauling PATH’s tracks, stations and signals. Unlike similar agencies that operate and maintain critical infrastructure, the Port Authority does not receive any tax revenue from the states of New York or New Jersey. The Port Authority is a self-funded agency. To address $3 billion in pandemic-related losses and inflationary pressures, while continuing the largest Port Authority capital investment in history, we’re also proposing a $0.25 toll increase for all vehicles in January 2025. We encourage anyone who has not signed up for E-Z Pass, to do so, and save $4.25 per trip. The public is encouraged to participate in the review and comment period, which runs through Dec. 11 https://ow.ly/auK650U85jl
