Diversity is an essential driver of creativity and progress in architecture. Today, there are more than 120,000 registered architects in the United States. Of those, 2,602 are Black, and fewer than 700 are Black women—a number that is steadily growing. The path is being paved by those who came before and those pushing forward today. Al Harris and Whitley Stephens are two Black architects paving the way at Populous, shaping the industry and this firm through their work. Whitley is the 444th registered Black female architect in the U.S., a milestone that speaks to both progress and the work still ahead. "It’s going to take all of us, not just people who look like me, to get to 1,000 registered Black female architects," Whitley says. A more equitable and inclusive architecture industry is not only more just but also more complete, representative of diverse lived experiences, ideas and voices. Listen to Al and Whitley share their journeys—what they’ve faced, what they’ve learned, and why representation matters. Alfred Harris | Whitley Stephens, AIA, NCARB, NOMA, LEED Green Assoc.

???? ?? The largest and most significant sport and entertainment project of 2025 will open this weekend. https://bit.ly/3XiWbKb But before we celebrate the arrival of a new sports and entertainment icon, let's take a look at how we got here. - From the former Kai Tak Airport, which connected Hong Kong to the world, Kai Tak Sports Park lands where Cathy Pacific used to take off. - To the 28 hectare Sports Park that links the world to the best in sports and entertainment, welcoming millions of travelers to the city, starting with the Hong Kong Sevens in March and Coldplay in April. Fasten your seatbelts as our dreams take flight during the Grand Opening on Saturday 1 March 2025. A great stadium or arena not only provides the space for a memorable concert or sporting event – it's an anchor to a city that maximizes the commercial and social benefits for local communities and businesses. https://bit.ly/3X6W1Fd This return on investment is driven by activation, and it’s essential that major sporting and entertainment infrastructure deliver on the promise of being multipurpose and utilized year-round. In this article, Senior Principals Chris Paterson, Al Baxter and Belinda Goh take examples from some of the award-winning projects they have led, such as Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, CommBank Stadium in Parramatta, Australia, and the London 2012 Olympics, to show how the stadium bowl can be the glue pot that creates sticky 24/7 precincts in the heat of live entertainment. ???
