The Strength is in You – Anti-Drug Campaign, implemented by Population Solutions for Health with support from the Embassy of Sweden in Harare, yesterday brought together 14 religious leaders as part of efforts to address the challenge of drug and substance use in local communities. Recognizing its role as a pivotal pillar of trust and connection, the campaign seeks to harness the church’s influence to inspire anti-drug behaviour and support. A resounding message echoed throughout - the church must stand as a beacon of hope, offering compassion and acceptance to those battling addiction. Through fostering safe, judgment-free spaces, we can collectively amplify the movement against drugs, reminding each other that the strength to overcome lies within. #The Strength is in You - #ToTurnDownDrugs #SimbaRiriMauri - #KurambaZvinodhaka #AmandlaAkuwe - #okwalaizidakamizwa

Still celebrating the month of love, Population Solutions for Health (PSH) with support from the Swedish Embassy today hosted a poignant forum theatre performance to create an enabling space for love to be celebrated as a foundation of strength and safety. Young couples gathered at Tendai Community Centre Hall in Bindura and through the theatre performance, were able to explore the destructive impact of intimate partner violence while amplifying what love should truly be; kind, respectful, and free from fear. As we continue celebrating love this February, join the movement and spread the message; Love Shouldn’t Hurt! #LoveShouldntHurt #UthandoKaluhlukumezi #RudoHarurove

In 2024, PSH, with support from USAID, embarked on a transformative journey dedicated to Positive Youth Development, recruiting 12 undergraduate interns from local institutions. With a focus on uplifting those from less privileged backgrounds, the initiative aimed to provide these young individuals a platform to thrive across various departments: Supply Chain, Evidence, IT, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), Audit, HR, and Finance. By stepping into these internship roles, many faced their first professional environment. The transition was not without challenges as they grappled with balancing academic knowledge and real-world applications. However, their experiences were enriched by a highly supportive environment. This youth developmental program empowered the interns to put theory into practice, gaining invaluable skills that would elevate them in their professional journey. The diversity of tasks allowed them to explore various aspects of organizational operations, inspiring innovative ideas and fresh perspectives. As the year draws to a close, PSH prepares to transition eight of the interns back to their institutions to complete their studies. The leadership team hosted an interactive feedback session, where mixed emotions filled the room. “This experience has been transformative,” one intern shared. “We’ve faced challenges, but the support and learning opportunities at PSH have been incredible.” PSH, in turn, was inspired by the youthfulness, enthusiasm and creativity of this young group. Their fresh ideas and innovative approaches breathed youthfulness to the team. The organization looks forward to welcoming another vibrant group for the next youth development program. Zimbabwe Parliamentarians Connect with Communities at PSH’s New Start Centre to Strengthen Policy in the HIV Response Efforts. In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance Zimbabwe’s HIV response, and advocate for inclusive health policies, Members of Parliament (MP) from the Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care and the Senate Thematic Committee on HIV and AIDS recently joined hands with communities of Key and Vulnerable Populations (KVP) Forum, People Living with HIV (PLHIV), and Population Solutions for Health (PSH) staff at the Masvingo New Start Centre. The two-day field tour featured panel discussions with rich conversations, clearly demonstrating the value of learning from engagement with communities, as highlighted by the MPs. This field tour received support from USAID and the Embassies of the Netherlands and Sweden. The field tour was hosted by various organizations, including PSH, Ceshhar, ZNNP+, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Health and Child Care, and the National AIDS Council. This event was part of an HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) orientation aimed at bridging the gap between policymakers, key populations, and PLHIV. Around 30 MPs engaged directly with key populations and PLHIV, gaining insights into their challenges. The tour included visits to the Masvingo New Start Centre and other healthcare facilities, where Members of Parliament observed various services. These services included HIV testing, STI, cervical cancer and mental health screenings, and modern contraception options. They were also informed about prevention services, such as PrEP and condom use. This hands-on experience inspired legislators to advocate for inclusive health policies that ensure equitable access to HIV prevention and treatment for all. The initiative underscored the importance of partnerships among community actors, government ministries, and development partners, highlighting the role of MPs as champions for change. By uniting efforts, Zimbabwe aims to advance toward universal health coverage and create an inclusive environment for all, to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
