New to freelancing as a marketing or revenue operations professional? Trying to snag your first clients? Here are a few pro tips to get you started. 1. Don't dismiss a possible deal because the number of hours doesn't seem to be worth it (enough). Oftentimes the client just wants you to 'prove it' because of past scars and if you do, that can turn into a long-term engagement with plenty of hours. 2. Reach out to previous connections you've worked with. It doesn't have to be just ops professionals. Demand gen, web development or content people you know could know somebody looking for hashtag #mops or hashtag #revops support. 3. While you should be scanning freelance job boards such as Upwork and Fiverr, don't dismiss more traditional job search sites such as hashtag #LinkedIn or hashtag #Indeed as more fractional based roles are being posted there. 4. If you feel like you're a perfect fit for a job, you can apply to full-time roles posted and pitch your services if you get an interview. It just might be that they actually don't need a full-time person and fractional support is the better option. Pardot (Marketing Cloud Account Engagement) Pro Tip: In Pardot (MCAE), you can either sync ALL prospects to Salesforce via the connector or a single prospect on their respective record. But what if you need to 'batch sync' a specific group of people because of a field update? You could export them from Pardot and re-import but that takes too long. Here's what you can do! A. Create a custom field called 'Batch Sync Date' on the Prospect level in Pardot (MCAE) and on the Lead and/or Contact object in Salesforce. Sync the fields & set the sync if values differ to be 'Use Account Engagement's value'. B. Each time you need to 'batch sync' a group of prospects, simply create a basic automation rule that has the respective audience defined and then, for the action, set the custom field 'Batch Sync Date' to be the respective date of the stamping. After a few minutes (2 to 4 minutes), the change in the custom field 'Batch Sync Date' will be recognized & force the sync between the two systems! P.S. The Three Questions You Need To Ask When Vetting Agencies for Operations (Marketing, Sales or Revenue) Support: 1. Q: Who will actually be doing the hands-on work? Can we meet them? - This is a must. Oftentimes, the person selling you the Operations based support doesn't know much (or anything really) about the subject. Sure buzzwords and promises of more leads help but when it comes down to it, who's doing the work? You're not going to be able to call the SDR for help when your sync with Salesforce unexpectedly breaks. Make sure you vet the right people, who are actually going to be hands-on in your systems!! 2. Q: What does your agency do best? What are you renowned for? - If the answer resembles anything close to 'we're good to great at everything'... run away. The concept of a full-service agency seems nice but not all departments will be created equal in regard to talent & efficiency. Just because the gas station sells 'fresh' sushi, doesn't mean I am buying it. 3. Q: What is the backup plan if our primary Ops contact(s) is OOO? Or leaves the company? - Nothing last forever so even if you do find the right match, ensure you know that the agency you go with has a contingency plan. For example, it's not a good sign when you see the owner of your respective agency openly posting on LinkedIn seeking an experts help for X, Y or Z. HubSpot Pro Tip: Want another way to capture more leads? Create a simple pop up form(s) to place on your highest valued blog posts, landing pages and website pages hosted on HubSpot. This allows you to 'strike when the iron is hot' as the visitor is clearly showing real interest. The beauty is, you can continue to allow your content to be ungated but add the twist of attempting to show the pop up form at the right moment.
