Here's the most basic but efficient Email QA checklist you'll ever see: - Ensure there are no typos - Ensure there are no extra spaces or breaks - Ensure your From Address, Send Address and Reply-To Address are set properly and that the Reply-To inbox is being monitored - Ensure the Unsubscribe/EPC works properly - Ensure all your images (if applicable) have ALT TEXT that makes sense, are crystal clear and link to the proper place - Ensure all of your links and CTAs within the email are linked to the proper location and contain the necessary UTMs (if applicable) - Ensure all social media links are working/linking as expected - Ensure you've entered the right Recipient and Exclusion lists for the send. Always have an estimated number of final send contacts in your - Ensure all contacts in the recipient list are mailable during the time of send (e.g. don't try mailing to somebody we know has already hard bounced) - Ensure the PLAIN TEXT version of the email matches the HTML version of the email - Optimize inbox placing and boosting open rates by prioritizing the copy within your Subject Line and Preview Text - Optimize tokens / variable tags --- if using, ensure they have a proper 'default' value that will display when/if that respective field value is BLANK - If there's an add to calendar scenario, follow through to make sure that process works as if you were an actual registrant - If applicable, seed other team members but best practice is to seed yourself at least a few minutes (ideally hours) before the live send so you can review the live version in your inbox The above is in no particular order but if you're not doing all of this, you're not doing all you can when it comes to basic quality assurance. Marketing Operations Pro Tip: Three Email A/B Testing Best Practices 1. DO NOT test more than one variable (e.g. subject line, imagery, CTA text/color/placement, body copy) at once. Doing so makes it nearly impossible to determine which variable is causing any noticeable change or impact within the email results. This leads to unreliable data assumptions and an inability to pinpoint the most effective variable within your A/B testing. 2. Be bold with your testing. The bolder you are, the more likely you are to perform an A/B test that has a significant statistical difference to prove a hypothesis. A/B testing isn't about this word is better than that, think bigger picture when creating a hypothesis (e.g. subjects with a CTA will perform X% better of an open rate than those without, subjects with emojis will perform X% better of an open rate than those without). 3. Make sure your winner didn't just win because somebody had to win. There are several free calculators online to determine both the sample size needed and help analyze whether the results of your A/B test were statically significant. Pardot (Marketing Cloud Account Engagement) Pro Tip: the three most underutilized features in Pardot (MCAE) 1. Custom Redirects: allow you to track any link on your site OR via a third party site. Furthermore, you can trigger Completion Actions when a prospect clicks on the respective Custom Redirect link (e.g. if clicked, send prospect to static list for tracking, add 3 points to their score and notify the assigned user). Example Use Cases: - Display Ad: use a Custom Redirect for each link attached to a unique ad. Utilize completion actions to segment prospects via static lists and/or tags. - Social Media: gain better insight into the traffic coming from social platforms by creating a Custom Redirect for each link you share/post (in lieu of just sharing one link across all of your social platforms) 2. Page Actions: allows your team to track specific web pages separately from Pardot’s standard web page tracking. All visitors are cookied through the Pardot tracking code that needs to be implemented across your site. Completion actions can be fired off of Page Actions. Example Use Cases: - Bottom of the Funnel / Buying Signal Pages (e.g. viewed pricing page) - Unqualified Page Views (e.g. viewed careers page) 3. File Completion Actions: allows you to fire completion actions based off of the file (usually .PDF) view. Marketing Operations Pro Tip: Stay away from Multi-Select Picklists to avoid future headaches. Creating a field with the field type of Multi-Select (particularly in hashtag #salesforce) has more drawbacks/limitations than you would think. Reporting, automations, formulas, data imports and even integrations are limited when using the multi-select picklist which is why I personally try to advise folks to stay away as much as possible.
