Being a young designer entering the workforce is challenging. Here are some key pieces of advice our team wanted to share with new graduates: ? Ask Questions—Lots of Them There's no such thing as a stupid question. You don’t know what you don’t know, so make it a point to ask and learn from every experience. ? Build and Maintain Your Network Stay connected with people you meet along the way. Your network will be one of your greatest assets as your career develops. ? Embrace the Learning Process Don’t be afraid to say, "I don’t know" or "I need help." People are willing to share advice and insights that can make a real difference in your journey. ? Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously Early in your career, focus on soaking up as much experience as possible. It’s a time to explore and grow, so keep an open mind and enjoy the process. ? Make Mistakes—and Learn from Them Mistakes are part of the journey. Treat them as valuable lessons, and take every opportunity to refine your skills. ? Set Boundaries Early It’s important to establish boundaries from the start. You don’t have to be available 24/7—remember, it’s okay to have fun too! We are proud to have graduates from Michigan State, University of Michigan, CCS, Eastern Michigan University, and more on our team. Additionally, we continue to support our local universities through internship and fellowship opportunities. Last week, Pophouse gathered 18 of Detroit’s business, design, and community leaders to discuss the creation of a Design District in Detroit. A primary point of discussion was Detroit’s prestigious status as a UNESCO?City of Design—the only city in the U.S. to hold this designation.
