I am thrilled to announce that I have been inducted into the 2024 class of Distinguished Alumni of the Vanderbilt School of Engineering! As a first-generation college student, I arrived at Vanderbilt in the summer to participate in the Minority Engineering Program. This program allowed me to acclimate to the university and provided me with a community that supported me throughout my undergraduate career. I am convinced that the program was an integral part of my successful matriculation.
Reflecting on my time at Vanderbilt, I am grateful for the uncommon experience of having two Black faculty, including Dr. Joe Alexander. Dr. Alexander probably has no idea that his presence helped me to see the possibility of pursuing my PhD. I also had my first medical device job with Dr. Paul King, who hired me as an undergraduate to operate his computerized anesthesiology record in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center OR.
My time at Vanderbilt not only gave me invaluable experience and knowledge but also inspired me to give back to the students. I am happy to see that the University continues to support underrepresented students in engineering with the programming led by Dr. Julianne Vernon. I am also proud to be following the example of fellow alumnae like Kimberly Bryant.
Thank you, Vanderbilt University School of Engineering , for shaping me into the person I am today. I am honored to be part of the Distinguished Alumni Class of 2024! #Vanderbilt #Engineering #MinorityEngineeringProgram #DistinguishedAlumni
