Seven years ago, I began my journey in higher education as a first-generation college student, and today, on First-Generation College Celebration Day, I’m reminded of how far I’ve come. Returning from the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) 2024 Annual Conference, themed “Empowering Excellence | Preparing for the NOW,” has me feeling inspired and deeply grateful. I was honored to be a part of three presentations this year with some amazing people! I also had the joy of reconnecting with familiar faces while meeting so many new ones who continue to fuel my passion for this work. Starting my first day back at work after an inspiring Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) Conference, I felt a mix of emotions—not just due to recent election results, but also because I’m already missing the energy of the conference. Just before leaving for work, I received texts from colleagues who were there, and it brought me back to all the memorable experiences we shared. From thought-provoking presentations to the chance to present for the first time at SACSA, every moment in Charlotte was meaningful. The connections, conversations, and fellowship with remarkable people made it a truly unforgettable experience. A special shoutout to Benjamin Moten for creating this incredible paddle to celebrate my appointment as co-coordinator for the SACSA/NASPA Region III Mid-Managers Institute! Grateful for this thoughtful gesture and excited to step into this role to support our community of mid-level professionals. Big thanks to popcam for the fantastic new headshot! This week, we are grateful to have supported the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) 2024 annual conference in Charlotte, NC! 400 new #headshots for collegiate professionals in two days (and instant results, of course!) ???????? Is your school struggling with finding, hiring, and managing expensive photographers? Or, have you tried a DIY solution with a camera and a backdrop taking up valuable space in your office? Both approaches are painful and provide highly variable results with limited options. And then getting photos back to the right students promptly? Forget about it! Last week, Chicago Scholars hosted their annual #OnSite event, which included 3,000 interviews with 120 colleges and universities for 600 high school students in a single day. Nearly 300 young people were admitted to colleges nationwide, and $24M in merit scholarships awarded! One of the best parts of our business is knowing we've given people something they may have never had before: an authentic, high-quality headshot to help grow their careers. Last week, popcam helped over 100 people get new headshots at the The Exchange at the Indianapolis Urban League's Fall Career Fair 2024!
