Congrats to this year's recipient ?? of The Pop Up Grocer Fund, Whims Delights! In reading founder Leanne Viola's submission, we learned of the brand's moving story. Five years ago, Leanne was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and lost all of her hair. She was told she had to be on medications for the rest of her life—which she refused—so instead, she decided to change her diet. And these circumstances inspired the creation of Whims: plant-based, low-sugar treats. As the recipient, Whims will receive a cash grant, placement on our shelves, and access to the PUG braintrust. ?? To all of our applicants: thank you for your time and care in applying. This year, we saw more submissions than any year prior, indicating the growth in this industry, and the challenges we all face in an effort to make it better. Look for Whims Delights in our store(s) soon, and remember that every visit to Pop Up Grocer supports a new brand in its infancy (including our own!). About The Fund ??: Every store pays it forward. We contribute a portion of total product sales to The Pop Up Grocer Fund, through which we further support founders—those that are under-resourced and underrepresented—and their creations, with a combination of cash, guidance, and services.
