Pond would like to congratulate the City of Duluth, Georgia, on receiving an ACEC Georgia Engineering Excellence Award for the Davenport Road Extension and Railroad Quiet Zone project. This transformative project extended Davenport Road, introduced a new signalized intersection at Buford Highway, and established a quiet zone to reduce train horn noise while maintaining critical safety measures. Pond provided engineering design, traffic analysis, railroad coordination, and permitting to support the city’s vision for a safer, more accessible, and economically vibrant downtown. Extensive collaboration with state, local, and federal agencies was crucial to successfully balance mobility, connectivity, traffic operations, and safety while enhancing the quality of life for downtown residents and businesses. Pond’s Austin Duehr was also awarded Young Engineer of the Year. As a recipient, Austin joins a distinguished group of engineering professionals who embody the highest standards of the profession. SPOTLIGHT: Tranche 3 Kick-Off in Korea The Pond-CDM Smith team began the year with a successful two-week planning and design charrette in the Republic of Korea, collaborating with base personnel to advance key infrastructure improvements as part of the Pacific Air Forces' (PACAF) Facilities Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization (FSRM) program. These efforts are crucial in enhancing both quality of life and operational readiness at Kunsan and Osan Air Bases. During the first week at Kunsan Air Base, the team worked closely with the 8th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES) to develop renovation plans for three Airmen dorms and repairs for three Flightline facilities. Despite challenging winter conditions, including five inches of snow, the team conducted site visits, engaged with user groups, and gathered critical data to develop designs that align with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) standards. These improvements will directly contribute to a better living environment for Airmen while keeping mission-essential facilities fully operational. In the second week, the team traveled to Osan Air Base, where they partnered with the 51st CES to refine project scopes for airfield lighting repairs, the development of a new Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) storage facility, and the consolidation of a multifunctional user space known as the “One Stop.” Through extensive site visits and interviews with base personnel, the team provided expert recommendations that will enhance infrastructure efficiency, streamline daily operations, and create more effective work and living spaces for service members. Pond is honored to support PACAF CES in strengthening these critical installations and providing the Airmen at Kunsan and Osan Air Bases with the facilities they need to live comfortably and operate at peak readiness. #PowerofPond #60YearsofPond #PACAF
