In honor of Global Recycling Day, we have partnered with Bridging The Gap to raise awareness about effective plastic recycling practices. Bridging The Gap is a leading environmental nonprofit organization based in Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to creating a green, healthy environment for all. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on volunteerism, Bridging The Gap strives to foster a sustainable Kansas City by connecting environmental concerns with economic and community development. Here are several key tips to keep in mind when recycling plastic: 1. The 'chasing arrows' triangles only tell you which plastic the item was made from, not that it's recyclable. 2. Recycle plastics by form rather than #: packaging bottles, jars and jugs are accepted anywhere plastics are being recycled at all. 3. Check your local provider's guidelines to find out whether they accept any other plastics for recycling - when in doubt, leave it out. 4. Empty all packaging containers. 5. Rinse food packaging. 6. Put ordinary caps back on (unless your recycling provider specifies discarding them) but throw away pumps and spray nozzles. 7. If your provider accepts tubs like cottage cheese and sour cream containers, the lids are too flat to be processed loose so press them firmly onto the tubs. 8.
