With help from the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative (RVCRI), the Tremonton-Garland Police Department in Utah has successfully established a school resource officer (SRO) program and launched an initiative to tackle teen dating violence. Since November 2024, this vital program has reached over 400 students, covering essential topics like healthy relationship characteristics, consent, dating violence, and abuse. At NPI, we know the value of no-cost resources for small and rural agencies, which is why we believe in and operate RVCRI. Initiatives like these strengthen the bandwidth of local police and promote overall safety. #RVCRI

In policing, collecting challenge coins symbolizes mutual respect, rich tradition, and law enforcement's culture. Many who collect and exchange these coins know that no two coins are the same; they are each unique in design and meaning. Each year, NPI designs a challenge coin for our supporters and those who join us in pursuing excellence in policing: https://hubs.li/Q03b64wf0

In a previous issue of InFocus, we looked closely at crisis response. We shared that a crisis response model that includes co-responder programs can enhance crisis de-escalation, increase connections to services, produce cost savings, and, importantly, alleviate pressure on the criminal justice and healthcare systems. This model can be designed three different ways. Ride-along support, for one, is when officers and mental health professionals ride and respond to an incident together. The ride-separate support model includes officers and mental health professionals arriving at an incident separately. Finally, remote support is when a mental health professional supports a police officer during an incident via telephone or video.
