The latest executive order on price transparency echoes the one issued in 2019, raising the question: Will enforcement take center stage this time, or is this seemingly redundant EO simply a way to highlight what the administration sees as a past win? This blog by POCP's Mary Griskewicz, MS, FHIMSS takes a quick look at the potential impact of the order, from consumer empowerment and cost savings to compliance challenges and unintended consequences. The first round of transparency rules didn’t seem to shake up negotiations as much as some predicted. Was that because organizations did the bare minimum or because enforcement lacked teeth? If enforcement ramps up now, we could see a very different outcome. Link to blog in the comments for a deeper dive. ??

Prior authorization is being streamlined and transformed, but the path forward isn't exactly straightforward. We are barreling towards CMS-0057 deadlines and in parallel there is a boatload of uncertainty about the future of HHS agencies. Many wonder if enforcement timelines will be turned on their ear. We hope the industry will recognize that the work required to improve prior authorization processes has value far beyond checking a compliance box. Health plans, providers, and health tech vendors that treat CMS-0057 as more than just a compliance exercise will be in a stronger position. Strategic compliance means aligning efforts with broader goals like provider satisfaction, operational efficiency, and patient access. The best-prepared organizations are those that recognize how automation and interoperability can deliver ROI even if policies shift. Regulatory uncertainty is frustrating, but investing in smarter, more streamlined prior authorization now will pay off no matter what happens in Washington. Check out the full article for a deeper dive into how strategic compliance with CMS-0057 will be beneficial as well as a peek at real-world initiatives working to achieve real progress:

Interoperability is like a living organism. Each system, including policy, standards, multi-stakeholder initiatives, pilots, and state-level activity, plays a role in keeping it functioning. Just like a fitness plan, staying on top of what is happening in these areas helps organizations adjust their own strategies. Whether it is a new regulatory requirement, a standards update, or the results of a multi-stakeholder pilot, understanding the shifts in the interoperability ecosystem is critical for making informed decisions. Every quarter, Interoperability Outlook delivers key updates to help organizations fine-tune their approach. If you want to stay informed and keep your interoperability strategy in top shape, learn more and reach out to us to view a past IO report as a sample. https://hubs.li/Q03c3T3s0

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) might not be top of mind for life sciences manufacturers, but they should at least be on the radar. These community-based providers serve millions of patients, including some of the most underserved populations in the country. With growing pressure to improve patient access, ignoring FQHCs means missing out on a key part of the healthcare landscape. Our latest blog by POCP Account Director Amber Glende, breaks down why life sciences manufacturers should care about FQHCs, how these organizations operate, and what opportunities exist to better engage with them.
