Work training while making a difference = big impact. Our latest POIC Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program cohort, in cooperation with the Depave, is working to transform the nearly 20,000-square-foot parking lot behind the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church into a nature play area for kids, sanctuary spaces for older church members, and a community food garden. This major reconstruction will have a significant impact. It will benefit Peque?itos Childcare, a Spanish language immersion school located in the church that provides affordable childcare to families in need. Opening doors and possibilities! Rosemary Anderson Prep's New Columbia Campus students had the exciting opportunity to visit Wieden + Kennedy and explore the artistic vision behind Portland's world-renowned advertising and marketing firm. ?? ? While on the tour, the quote "Fail Harder" became a powerful reminder for students that taking risks and embracing failure are crucial parts of the creative journey. ?? We look forward to more students experiencing this inspiring visit in the future! ??

Future-proofing America's workforce takes investment in skill sharing and radical transformation. Collaborating on how we scale up to reach this population and remove barriers is essential to moving this work forward. We recently welcomed the OICA Board Chair, James Talton to do just that. As an offshoot of OIC of America Inc., POIC is one of 26 affiliates dedicated to building economic self-sufficiency by promoting in-demand skills to historically overlooked people. Developing the Sullivan Training Network alongside our other national branches is part of that strategy. We look forward to many more meetings and discussions to take action and move this work forward together. ???

?? ?? Our Natural Resource Pathway Student Crew Leaders, in cooperation with the Friends of Trees and Portland Parks & Recreation, are doing incredible work restoring Portland's parks. ?? Since the start of the partnership, the crew leaders have been responsible for planting about 4,000 trees and scrub yearly. We thank our crew leaders for all their hard work and dedication to creating a greener Portland! ??

Rosemary Anderson Prep is vital to the Portland Public Schools initiative to provide Multiple Pathways to Graduation. As one of the central service areas of POIC, alternative education is integral to improving student outcomes. At our schools, we redefine what alternative schooling can be by raising the bar and providing support for the student and the whole family, alongside individualized courses and mental health counseling. This wrap-around support takes a lot of investment and support from partners. As our Strategic Partner, PPS is key in ensuring every student achieves their educational and personal potential. Albina Vision Trust’s first housing community, Albina One, is getting ready to open and as we are preparing to welcome our first residents, our Resident Services partner POIC and Property Management partner, Quantum Residential are each looking for key staff positions to join their teams! Our partner, POIC is hiring for a Residents Services Coordinator, which will be instrumental in building a strong sense of community at Albina One and connecting residents to resources and services. Quantum Residential is looking for a Property Manager and Assistant Property Manager to lease up and manage this mission-driven building. These jobs are more than just resident services and property management.
