Understanding the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest is crucial, as both are life-threatening but distinct conditions. A heart attack occurs when a blockage in the arteries restricts blood flow to the heart muscle, potentially causing tissue damage. In contrast, cardiac arrest is an electrical malfunction that causes the heart to stop beating suddenly, leading to immediate loss of consciousness. While heart attacks can increase the risk of cardiac arrest, they are not the same. Recognizing the symptoms and responding promptly by calling emergency services can save lives.
