Providing housing and fostering hope for those who have experienced long-term homelessness.

关于我们

Plymouth Housing transforms lives by providing permanent, supportive homes to homeless people with few other options for housing. Since 1980, we’ve been providing homes to the most challenged homeless adults in our community. Today, over 1,000 low income and formerly homeless adults live in 14 Plymouth residential apartment buildings in the downtown Seattle area. Another 750 households have found a home in Seattle/King County through Plymouth’s Shelter Plus Care Program (a federal housing program Plymouth administers for King County). At the heart of Plymouth’s approach is the “Housing First” philosophy, a philosophy that has proven successful across the country. Without a stable home, homeless people cannot access the assistance they need to address their problems. Lack of a stable home exacerbates chronic medical and mental health conditions, making it very difficult to improve one’s life. At Plymouth, we work hard to lower the barriers to housing so that people who are shut out of housing have an opportunity to succeed. Our model of permanent housing, coupled with “wrap around” supportive services, helps people rebuild their lives, regain their dignity, and leave homelessness behind forever.

Housing vulnerable people isn’t up for political debate! ???? Check out this op-ed by our CEO, Karen Lee. “In these incredibly uncertain times, we should stick to the things that make sense. Whatever political or ideological differences you and I may have, we likely want the same thing: for everyone in our community to have a safe, stable place to live. In addressing homelessness, at least, recent polling suggests that what unites us is stronger than what divides us…” Read the full article on our blog: https://lnkd.in/g9qGNXQM #housingfirst #housingisahumanright

??? The kids are alright! We’re grateful for the youth volunteers who visited the Plymouth Supply Center (PSC) last week to assemble hygiene kits for our residents, create no-sew blankets, and craft heartfelt cards. ?? Thank you, Seattle Academy and TOPS K-8(Seattle Public Schools)! These endearing notes would be a meaningful reminder to anyone and will be especially touching for our residents who have experienced homelessness, as we support them in stabilizing and improving their lives. The PSC provides Plymouth Housing residents with a welcoming space to shop for essential supplies and home goods—completely free of charge. This April, we’re hosting a Spring Cleaning Drive, and you can make a difference by donating much-needed cleaning products and household essentials to help residents maintain a clean, comfortable home. ?? We are heartbroken by the loss of Former Washington House Speaker Frank Chopp — a tireless champion for affordable housing, health equity, and community well-being. Frank embodied the kind of civic leadership we should all aspire to: insistent, creative, and unwavering in his commitment to the belief that everyone deserves to be safe, healthy, and housed. Many of Plymouth Housing’s buildings simply wouldn’t exist without his advocacy — including Blake House, which stands today as a testament to his dedication. His impact is impossible to quantify, but it’s fair to say that thousands of people are housed and millions are healthier because of his lifetime of work. He listened with curiosity, led with compassion, and treated the hardest policy challenges not as “you” or “them” problems — but as our problems to solve together. A force like Frank made us all stronger. We honor his legacy by continuing the work, together. Read more about his extraordinary life and legacy: https://lnkd.in/gjJWzthE?

  • ?? We left Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day at the Washington state Capitol feeling inspired and energized! It was empowering to join fellow advocates and organizations on March 14 in speaking with lawmakers about housing rights. We're grateful to the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance for the opportunity to advance our mission and champion a Housing First approach. We envision a day when every person has a home and a better quality of life. ????

  • ? We were thrilled to welcome Fred Rivera to Plymouth’s building in Ballard! Executive vice president of the Seattle Mariners, Fred recently participated in Seattle Dances to raise money and awareness for our mission. We’re grateful for Fred and our partnership with the Mariners to help build stronger, more inclusive communities. Thank you, Fred! ? Toft Terrace, our first building in Ballard, opened in January 2023 and provides homes for 81 adults who have experienced housing insecurity. As part of Plymouth Housing’s commitment to ending homelessness, we offer safe, high-quality housing along with supportive services that help residents regain stability and improve their lives. ??Fun fact: In Old Norse, toft means “homestead” or “site of a house.” Given Ballard’s deep Scandinavian roots, our naming committee chose a name that honors this heritage while symbolizing “home” for our residents.

  • Plymouth is proud to join the Eastside community in ensuring that everyone has a place to call home! ???? Check out our latest blog post for an inside look at how we’ve built authentic relationships with Eastside residents, businesses, schools, and faith organizations. Through community engagement, trust-building, and active listening, we’re working together to provide homes for unhoused neighbors. ?? “Our residents do best when the neighborhood wants to help support them, which is why developing relationships is a core part of our mission to transform lives.” — Evan Sexton, External Engagement Coordinator at Plymouth Blog: https://lnkd.in/gAa-K35A
