Any idea how many gallons of water a newer toilet uses? How about one that's older than 1992? The answer: 1.6-1.28 gallons vs. 3.5 gallons. That might not sound like a big difference, but it can add up quickly - especially for schools and businesses with many fixtures. Newer, more water-efficient toilets can actually save you in the long run. Reach out to our WEES team for more info: https://lnkd.in/g-We5H2B. #WorldToiletDay is a good reminder of how glad we are to be able to flush and know what goes down the drain will be treated safely (thanks to many of our clients who treat wastewater). Helping our communities save water for their future is just a small way to show our gratitude. #WeArePlummer #ConserveWater

You probably know that US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now requiring utilities to monitor and remove PFAS from water treatment plants by 2029, but #DoYouKnow about the best monitoring methods and innovative techniques to remove them? How about straightforward ways to share your efforts with the public and explain the role of federal and state funding? Our water treatment team has provided several continuing education sessions on this critical topic, most recently for water and wastewater treatment plant operators part of the Florida Rural Water Association. We are happy to provide trainings and more info for your team or association. https://lnkd.in/gdijhRZD.

We had the special opportunity to visit Orlando Easterly Wetlands Park, which provides additional, tertiary treatment of nitrogen and phosphorus in already-treated effluent for the City of Orlando. We learned about the history of the wetland operation, as well as its unique challenges and the solutions that Wetlands Manager Mark D. Sees and his team are using to meet treatment goals continuously. Mark shared his experience and knowledge of wetlands' operation, biology and chemistry, which have allowed him to make insightful connections, such as relating the pH changes influenced by the presence of submerged aquatic vegetation at the downstream wetland cells to increased precipitation of phosphorus in the form of calcium phosphate. #WeArePlummer

We are very grateful for the sacrifices our veterans have made to protect our freedoms and for the skills and perspectives they bring to the workplace. Joshua Martin (middle below) served nearly 4 years in the Army National Guard and now brings many of the skills, values and commitment he honed in the military to his role as IT Operations Manager on our team. Please join us in thanking Josh and all veterans for their service—those on our team, among our partners and across our country. #VeteransDay2024 #ThankYouVeterans!

Exciting progress in Frisco, CO! Since 2021, we've been working with the Town to pilot and design a PFAS treatment system at one of their groundwater sources. The pilot system uses granular activated carbon and ion exchange and has successfully reduced PFAS to below detectable limits. We’re now in the detailed design phase, aiming for completion in early 2025. Shoutout to the Town of Frisco for their proactive approach! #WeArePlummer #InnovationInAction

#Didyouknow that conserving water in winter means saving $$ all year? Every winter your local water utility averages the water you use over three months to determine your wastewater/sewer bill. Doing this in winter makes sure they only charge you for water that actually goes into their sewer system, not also for outdoor watering. So reducing use in winter will cut your sewer bill and keep your dollars from literally going down the drain! Some simple tips? 1. Don't water outside during the winter. 2. Fix leaks. A one-gallon-per-minute leak during winter averaging equals an additional 500,000 gals of wastewater you'll be charged for all year. 4. Install high-efficiency showerheads and aerators. 5. Wash only full loads of laundry. 6. Don’t wash your car at home. 7. Avoid draining and filling swimming pools during winter averaging. #WEES #WinterAveraging #PioneeringSolutions
