    "We need someone who can make decisions fast!"? When teams are struggling, the first instinct is to hire a “strong decision-maker”. Problem solved, right? Wrong. That just solves the symptoms, not the actual disease. If a team needs to make a ton of decisions on a daily basis, you don’t have a decision-making problem. You have a clarity problem. Good orgs move fast because they have clear principles, and clarity makes most decisions obvious.? Want to fix your clarity problem? ?? Define clear principles that eliminate common decisions ?? Question your processes constantly and make sure it doesn’t involve wasting time on unnecessary decisions ?? Reward people who prevent wasting time on unnecessary decisions and not just people who make them Yes, you occasionally need leaders who can make tough calls. But if you are making tough calls all day, you have more root problems than you think. People define culture and culture defines practice. So if you want to solve this, you need to be mindful about the people you’re hiring and the behaviours you reward. So how do you find the right people? Instead of looking for 'decision makers', look for people who:? ?? Have a track record of saying no to ideas that don't raise the bar (no growth mindset if you want me to really say that) + have the capability to guide people to turn it around? ?? Are curious about how things could be different, and question ‘best practices’ and the status quo The interview process needs to change too. Instead of asking candidates about their "decision-making process," maybe ask them:? 1?? “What is one common practice in your industry that you think needs to be challenged? 2?? "Tell me about a time you eliminated a decision rather than made one" 3?? "What's the worst meeting you've ever been in and why did it exist?" Are you looking for people who can and make unnecessary decisions all day, or people who can eliminate it all together so you can grow faster?

    Is your manager making you miserable right now?? Not in the dramatic, headline-grabbing way, but in those small moments that pile up: the interrupted lunch breaks, the "quick questions" that spiral into hour-long meetings, the subtle implications that you're not doing enough. It's death by a thousand paper cuts, and each one feels personal. Here's the truth that might not make you feel better, but might help you understand: Two-thirds of managers never get real training. They were probably good at their job, got promoted, and then were left to figure out how to manage humans using nothing but gut instinct and half-remembered advice from their bad managers. They probably got said: Good luck ?? This doesn't excuse the midnight emails or the micromanagement or the way they sometimes make you feel small. Your frustration is real and valid. But knowing they're probably just as lost as you feel might help you navigate the chaos until something changes – whether that's them improving or you finding the exit sign.
