Pleune Service Company’s annual President’s Award is used?to recognize someone that has demonstrated a core value at a high level. In 2024 the focus was on our core value of Teamwork. Chad Martindale has impressed with me with his respect for people while under extreme pressure, willingness to make the best decisions possible for the good of the whole, and for thinking about what the company is trying to accomplish long-term not just what a department or project needs at a given moment in time. Chad has modeled Teamwork at an exemplary level and this is well deserved.

?2025 Refrigerant Transition If you have been in the market for a new HVAC system lately, you have no doubt have heard of the refrigerant transition changes coming. The changes will see the current R410A phased out and more environmentally friendly refrigerants like R-454B and R-32 take their place. Manufacturers have already ceased production of some types of equipment using R410A and are retooling for the newer refrigerants. After January 2025, all equipment will be manufactured for the new refrigerants. Vendors can still sell equipment inventories using the old refrigerants for a short time, until the beginning of 2026. The new refrigerants are more environmentally friendly and have a lower Global Warming Potential. The changes are being made by the EPA to lower the carbon footprint of HVAC systems. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????What it means to you The new refrigerants have slightly different installation procedures and protocols than the older refrigerants. Also, some dedicated equipment will be needed by your installation and servicing contractor. This means a little more labor hours on the installation cost, along with higher equipment cost. The market will fluctuate on pricing until manufacturers have fully transitioned, and supply and demand has smoothed out to the new equipment and getting the old units out of inventory. The new refrigerants are not backwards compatible to the old R410A systems. The supply of R410A for your older systems will decrease as we move forward, putting upward pricing pressure on that as well. The new equipment will have some inherent safety features that will be new to most customers. The most obvious will be internal refrigerant detectors, to look for any signs of leaks in the system. The system will stop cooling or heating (if a heat pump) and indicate an alarm, while running the fan to dilute any concentrations of the leaking refrigerant. The new refrigerants are mildly flammable in the presence of an open flame, which has driven the new alarm feature. The older systems will still be able to be repaired and serviced for an extended period of time. Major components, like compressors and coils will still be available for the foreseeable future (as of this writing). Pleune can help you navigate any questions that you might have about the equipment changes coming.
